Subject: Research on tropical cyclone storm surge in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering commenced in December 1971, and since then detailed studies of tropical cyclone wind waves have been a more recent development. A parallel interest has been maintained in frequency estimates of design waves and design water levels in tropical cyclone regions. The total water level studies have considered the concurrence of astronomical tide, storm surge and wave setup hydrographs.
