Confronting Australia's disaster problems through the 1980's.

By: Contributor(s): Material type: TextTextLanguage: ENG Publication details: 1981Description: 26p., no refsSubject: Australia periodically faces emergencies and disasters which may be caused by acts of nature, or through man's intervention. When these emergencies or disasters occur they normally affect people and property, and have serious economic and social consequences. Hence there is an obvious and imperative need to take appropriate and timely action to mitigate these hazards and their possible effects. Major emergencies and disasters, whenever and wherever they occur place immediate and heavy pressures on those in government, those in statutory authoritites responsible for protection and preservation of life and property, and on those in any leadership or senior management position in industry, commerce or the community. Fortunately, disasters in Australian society are relatively rare, and this is the reason that few people have practical experience of disaster management, hence there is a need to train those likely to be in positions of responsibility
