Review: The purpose of this research project was to examine whether people were sufficiently warned and able to seek shelter after a major storm system moved across the Midwest of the United States in May, 2003. It found that while tornado warnings were adequate and timely in large communities, the same is not true for small, particularly rural communities. Suggestions are made to improve warning systems in smaller communities.
