Landslides contain awesome power. The cause of Australia's worst landslide at Thredbo was finally traced to a leaking water main saturating the ground making it unstable. In the Californian town of La Conchita, a mass of mud and earth buried homes and outpaced fleeing residents. In the Canary Islands some scientists believe the entire mountain side of the volcanic island of La Palma could collapse into the sea.
