Documentary-drama. The Fastnet race is a yachting race in the United Kingdom. Storms during the 1979 race resulted in the deaths of 17 competitors. This led to a major overhaul of the rules and the equipment required for the competition. The Surviving disaster series has spectacular CGI, authentic reconstructions, and a distinctive filmic style. Each episode considers whether the disaster in question could have been prevented, and looks at the lessons to be learnt in order to avoid future large-scale catastrophes.
