Review: Existing data from natural disasters in Queensland between 1994 and 2004 were compiled and a database constructed. The database allowed for the development of a tool to analyse costs over time, across different local government areas, by different costs and by hazard type. The second phase was to incorporate social vulnerability indicators into the data base and apply it to a mapping environment. This enabled the information to be interrogated in a visual context, providing greater analysis, discussion and ultimately understanding.
