Examines the impact of the 1989-1990 eruption of Redoubt Volcano on aircraft and air traffic operations in Alaska and particularly to Anchorage which is the major hub for refueling and provisioning of aircraft using the great-circle routes between North America and Europe with Asia. The report documents how a series of relatively small eruptions at a remote volcano disrupted the Alaska economy. Also identifies some of the strengths and weaknesses of the current system to warn of an impending eruption or to notify of an eruption in progress
