Review: "The Shire of Esperance after becoming aware of the introduction of the Emergency Management Act 2005 resolved to commence a program to comply with Local governments new responsibilities under the Act. The Council was formulating procedures to address the issues of local area emergency management arrangements and understood that a sound foundation in ERM was integral to the whole process of new EM planning. Funding was sought from FESA EMS AWARE program for an ERM project to be undertaken in Esperance. The funding of $33,000 would provide for a full time project manager and facilitator for a period of 6 months. The project objectives and anticipated outcomes would be: A comprehensive community consultation risk survey relevant to Esperance; A comprehensive ERM process to ascertain risks; Process risks into priorities; Develop treatment strategies for the top 5 risks; Implementation of top 5 treatment strategies; A database of risks to continue the ERM process in the future; Raise level of awareness of EM in community and with key stakeholders; Provide introduction training in EM for key stakeholders; Provide a foundation in ERM to align with new local area emergency management planning and arrangements." -- p. 4.
