The purpose of this report is to analyse, synthesise, and assess the extant literature on postdisaster economic recovery in the context of providing a background for policy development. The magnitude of disasters under consideration is all-inclusive. Therefore, economic recovery from relatively localised disasters that are the result of natural phenomena - earthquakes, floods, and tornadoes - is considered as well as economic recovery from a generalised disaster resulting from a hypothetical nuclear attack
