'Be prepared' -- that was the motto taken to heart by Dubbo City Council when planning their Y2K strategy. No tonly did Council prepare for risks associated with the 'millennium bug', they were also able to prepare for any risks that might threaten Dubbo in the future. In addition to a testing, repair, replacement and retirement program, Council went that extra step further to include a public awareness program; cooperation and consultation with local emergency services; provision of assistance to local businesses and other local governments in NSW; as well as the development of contingency plans for critical business functions. By treating Y2K as a 'business risk issue' and not just a computer or IT problem, Dubbo was recognised worldwide as a leader in Y2K preparedness.
