This study is one of six sub-studies conducted for EMA Project 13/2001. It details the exploration of: resident's knowledge and utilisation of WWW-based information about bushfire features and preparation for fire events; expectations regarding websites; comparison of the perceived usefulness of websites with conventional information means (such as brochures or videos); reasons for either "not yet" or "not often" using the internet for bushfire preparedness. The research indicated many but not all residents are aware of 'electronic' information channels, that their use is restricted, and that reservations against this unfamiliar medium exist. The majority of respondents did indicate that they would eventually utilise this information source for fire preparedness.
