The primary purpose of the workshop is to reach agreement, as far as possible, on a National Risk Assessment Framework to assist the implementation of a key Reform Commitment in the COAG reforms on natural disaster mitigation, relief and recovery arrangements, namely Reform Commitment 1 'Develop and implement a 5 year program of systematic and rigorous disaster risk assessments." The workshop will also determine the best way to go forward to implement this commitment through broad stakeholder consultation. The workshop provides good opportunities for participation into the issues and requirements to develop a National Risk Assessment Framework through a series of technical and strategic discussions. The National Risk Assessment Workshop will provide a forum for determining and discussing the status of risk assessments in Australia, raise awareness of policy issues and the current implementation status of the COAG Reform Commitments at national, state and local levels.
