Success Management International Learning Enterprises (S.M.I.L.E.) carried out a project aimed at making emergency information more readily comprehendible to non-urban Aboriginals and others whose understanding of the English language was poor. They did this by using simple words, local language, coloured images and shapes that depicted the nature of various hazards, and suggested the appropriate actions to deal with them. S.M.I.L.E. hopes the new 'Hazard mitigation visual language' will help to dramatically improve individual safety and improve people's knowledge of how to prepare for and cope with emergencies
