Helping residents affected by bushfires to help themselves is the aim of the New South Wales Fire Brigades'Community Fire Unit (CFU) Program. CFU members are community representatives, often from bushfire prone areas, who want to help protect their homes in the event of a fire before the Fire Brigade arrives. Following an initial training period, the members are provided with Community Fire Units. The CFU members are also trained in hazard reduction strategies
