The village of Marrar near Junee in NSW is the State's first official Fire Safe Town. The Fire Safe Towns program, trialled in the Coolamon Junee Fire District in 2000, recognises a town or village for its level of community preparedness to deal with fire. The program is a joint effort by the Coolamon/Junee Rural Fire District (NSW Rural Fire Service), the Coolamon Shire Council and the Junee Shire Council
