The collision of "SS Lake Illawarra" with Tasman Bridge on 5 January 1975 resulted in the loss of twelve lives and major disruption for the citizens of Hobart until the bridge was reopened in October 1977. A commemorative service was staged to mark the 25th anniversary of the disaster. Planning for the service involved organisations and individuals with a diverse and perhaps unique range of skills, experience and networks. A paper of the same title (by McGee & Young), bound with this document, is reprinted from "The Australian journal of emergency management", summer 2000-2001, pp. 10-14. It includes an overview of the history of Tasman Bridge and the disaster, describes the memorial service and discusses the community recovery aspects
