IDNDR 1990-2000-- at head of title
W. J. R. Alexander is a member of the IDNDR Scientific and Technical Committee
Two forms of natural disasters, droughts and floods, are not only more severe in semiarid regions due to their more variable climates, but they also cause significantly more damage to the social and economic infrastructures that are affected by them. Rural populations are malnourished and more prone to disabling and life-threatening diseases which are on the increase in many African countries. This presentation reflects the African perspective on natural disaster reduction.
