Subject: Results of measurements of aeronautical turbulence within tropical thunderstorms are presented and discussed in relation to concurrent 10 cm weather-radar echoes. Using an objective method of estimating turbulence intensity, a significant correlation was found to exist between the turbulence intensity and both the maximum reflectivity of the stoem core and also the maximum reflectivity beneath the flight path. However, no significant correlation was apparent between the reflectivity gradient encountered within the storm and the turbulence intensity
