Maroochy Shire Council provides a year round lifeguard service on its 24 kilometres of beaches. In a Queensland first, Maroochy Lifeguard Service and the Queensland Ambulance Service have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding initial first aid response services. Maroochy Shire Council, through its professional Lifeguard Service, has accepted responsibility to assist the Queensland Ambulance Service by providing a first response service in and around patrolled beach and foreshore areas. In return the Queensland Ambulance Service will train Maroochy Lifeguards in basic responder training and clinical competencies, allowing the Queensland Ambulance Service to provide a greater area of immediate first aid response cover and quicker response times.
