Unofficial estimates place the death toll for the earthquake in Turkey in August, 1999 at 30,000-40,0000. Most deaths and injuries were caused by collapsed commercial and residential buildings. EQE International promptly had a team of 7 engineers on the ground investigating and researching the damage, providing support , and documenting lessons learned to prevent such catastrophic losses in future earthqaukes. This report is a preliminary briefing of EQE's findings on the effects of the earthquake on the people, structures, and country of Turkey
