Brain scientists at the National Institute of Mental Health recently sought to remedy this deficiency. They gave evidence that those who voluntarily increase their individual (not societal) risk, like rock climbers and hang gliders, for example, have lower levels of the brain enzyme monoamine oxidase. They also have lower levels of a brain chemical called DBH, and higher levels of gonadal hormone.
