Analysis of NOAA weather station data shows heat stress in cities across the United States has increased dramatically over the past 50 years. The number of days per year that exceed the 85th percentile for average heat index has doubled over this time period. High heat stress nights have also double in frequency nationwide. The health implications of this ongoing trend are significant.
