Subject: This study aims to develop a measure of community resilience for communities facing seasonal natural disasters. From this strategies for community education can be identified in order to reduce the vulnerability of a community to an impending natural disaster. A case study approach was used focusing on the area of Darlington, a semi rural suburb 40 kms east of Perth, Western Australia, which is under seasonal threat from bushfires. A significant lesson learned is that communities are complex, and to understand the resilience of a community, first one must determine who the community is and how it is operating
