On April 1st 1999 the New South Wales Dept. of Agriculture actioned their Disaster Plan (DISPLAN) in response to an outbreak of an exotic disease known as Newcastle Chicken Disease on poultry farms on Mangrove Mountain. The outbreak resulted in almost two million birds being destroyed from thirty-three surrounding properties.
