The mapping of social and economic characteristics is used to determine the likely vulnerability and responsiveness of coastal communities to evacuation in the face of cyclone storm surge. The longer term aim of the research project is to contribute to a methodology for community analysis that may be added to as data becomes progressively available in Cairns and that may be applied to other storm surge prone communities of Queensland.
