The objectives of this plan are to provide for effective coordination and cooperative efforts amongst members in the South Pacific and South-East Indian Ocean to improve the warning systems for the protection of lives and the reduction of human suffering and property damage caused by tropical cyclones and other related hazardous weather phenomena. The Plan was formulated by the RA V Tropical Cyclone Committee for the South Pacific (RA V/TCC) at the request of the WMO Regional Association V (South-West Pacific) (RA V), within the framework of the Tropical Cyclone Programme of WMO and in the spirit of Resolutions 5 and 25 of the Tenth World Meteorological Congress, Geneva, 4-28 May 1987 (WMO-No. 681).
