The purposes of this workshop are to: Provide an understanding of the basis of risk assessment; Develop a common base of knowledge and terminology on risk assessment; Provide a framework for developing risk-based management decisions; and, Communicate risk assessment and risk management information to the public. The workshop is not intended as a step-by-step "cookbook" on risk assessment. Rather, it explores the science and policies of risk assessment, risk management and risk communication in the context of a case study. The intent is to provide risk managers with an understanding of risk assessment to support effective risk-based decision making
