Marine-deposited sediments associated with the southern Aegean tsunami of July 9th 1956 are described from Livadia and stavros, Astypalaea Island, Greece. A tsunami rather than storm surge origin for the sediments is preferred on the basis of the uniqueness of the deposits within the geological record
