Subject: The United Nations adopted a resolution to designate the 1990s as the "International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR)" calling on its Member countires to work together to reduce loss of life and property damage due to natural disasters. Japan has taken positive measures to set up facilities and promote international cooperation and communication. This report by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is based on data on tropical cyclone disasters and disaster reduction systems collected from Asian and Pacific countries.
