Subject: Seven freeway bridges severely damaged by the January 17, 1994 Northridge earthquake were visited immediately after the earthquake, and the damage documented. Preliminary analyses were carried out to compare observed and expected damage, and to estimate the approximate level of ground excitation needed to cause the observed damage. This report documents the results of these analyses and dicusses the reasons of the bridge failures
