It is subject to large climatic variability and extremes, including the effects of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation, frequent droughts, wildfires, floods, tropical cyclones, and severe storms leading to coastal storm surges, hail and wind damage. Climatic change may well affect all of these phenomena, but unfortunately there are great uncertainties.
