"This handbook has been prepared by Rotary International District 9600 (RI D9600) Disaster Awareness Advisory Team (DAAT) Committee in accord with the following terms of reference: To provide an information resource for Rotarians in D9600 to further the awareness and preparedness of the community for potential natural disasters; To establish a permanent link between Rotary District 9600 and national, state and local government emergency services authorities; To provide necessary information to link Rotary community services with state and local emergency management authorities, particularly in terms of contact details in each Rotary Club's area; To provide information on possible Rotarian support, at both District and Club levels, to the community for mitigation measures, including response activities, as a non-government organisation (NGO) to emergency services authorities; To complement the DAAT program in its continuing mission in Rotary District 9600; To present this handbook as a 'model' to other Rotary Districts, both in Australia and internationally." -- p. 3.
