Summary: "This project has been specifically designed to reduce the incidence and impact of childhood injuries and improve safety for all children throughout the community, through the development and implementation of a range of locally developed strategies and intervention activities based on proven approaches and existing research evidence. The project is a collaboration between the City of Greater Geelong and the Victorian Department of Human Services: Public Health Branch. The key objectives of the project are to: Develop systems to enhance local capacity to respond to injury issues, Develop sustainable injury responses at a community service and local government level Improve local knowledge of the risks, barriers and enablers associated with childhood injuries, Research and evaluate specific interventions at a local community level, Increase the awareness of the importance of a whole of local government approach to injury prevention. Preliminary impact evaluations indicate the project has been instrumental in reducing the overall incidence of childhood injury, whilst also promoting a strong focus throughout the community to support the implementation of measures that together prevent and ameliorate children?s exposure to safety hazards and risks with home and community environments." -- website.
