This report is an interim report and, accordingly, does not attempt to cover all of the terms of reference. Rather, it highlights some issues which need to be addressed prior to the commencement of the 1994/95 fire season, and makes recommendations for legislative and policy changes which improve the State's capacity to prevent and control bush fires. The report concentrates on two main issues: hazard reduction; and fire management. In addition, the report makes one recommendation about equipment. The Committee intends to return to the issue of equipment in a later report. In future months, the Committee also intends to present reports on other issues raised in the terms of reference
