Summary: An investigation of Partnership Agreements between the Tasmania Governemtn and some local government authorities revealed that the deisgning of a community safety plan is one of many important outputs outlined in these agreements. Some local government authorities in Tasmania (in partnership with other Government agencies and community groups) have proactively set up community safety committees to look at ways to enhance community safety. Some of these committees have expresses an interest in the template. The template was designed to make it "simple and quick" for local government or local communities to design their own community safety plans. It is intended that the template will complement existing planning tools, processes or methods used by local government, with the overall aim of enhancing community planning outcomes. For this doument, community safety is wider than crime prevention and encompasses efforts to reassure communities and influence their perceptions about safety issues and crimes. It aims to address the causes of crime and what influences people to get involved in crime.
