Subject: The specific aim of this study is to analyze the Mossman/Port Douglas communities response to the Tropical Cyclone Rona advice and warning messages. Information relating to how they both received and responded to the Cyclone Rona warnings has been acquired directly from the people affected. The impact of Cyclone Rona on individual households and the community generally and, how household residents prepared for this event has been considered. Residents have been asked to appraise their own performance and ability to cope with the situation and to evaluate the performance of authorities, particularly those responsible for issuing warnings and those offering awareness and preparedness advice. In addition to completing a structured questionnaire residents have been given maximum possible opportunity to elaborate on, or qualify, their responses and to add any further comments. Results of this study will either confirm or refute media suggestions of a public perception of an official failure to communicate warnings adequately
