Information relating to how they both received and responded to these warnings has been acquired directly from the people affected. How residents prepared for this event and the cyclone season generally has been considered. Residents have been asked to appraise and evaluate their own performance and ability to cope with the situation together with that of the authorities, particularly those responsible for issuing warnings and for the general organisation. In addition to completing a structured questionnaire, residents have been given maximum opportunity to elaborate on or qualify their responses and to add any further comments. Interviews have also been conducted with key emergency management personnel and evacuation centre managers
