"The Welfare Services Functional Area is administered by the NSW Department of Community Services (DoCS). The bulk of the services are delivered by volunteers in five non-government organisations (NGO) according to a Memorandum of Understanding. The five NGOs (or Community partners) are Adventist Development and relief Agency, ANGLICARE NSW, Australian Red Cross NSW, Salvation Army, and St Vincent de Paul Society. Each agency is tasked to provide specific welfare services to affected persons in the event of an emergency or disaster. Together these community partners employ more than 10,000 volunteers across NSW. Volunteers are organised into regional and local teams however the capability and committment of leadership of these teams is widely varied. In response to this, the Interagency Team Leader Training Course was developed to standardise and raise the calibre of local volunteer leadership. This training ensures that all volunteer Team Leaders working in disaster recovery know that they each share a consistent baseline of skills, knowledge and understanding of each agency?s role and general emergency concepts." -- Website.
