Volume 1 : 1952-1977
Beginning with the ill fated Comet, the world's first jetliner, the author gives the story behind some of the air disasters involving jet aircraft that followed. Each story has been selected to present a different facet of the problems facing the jet age, together with the answers that were found to them, and the resulting changes and technological developments that were incorporated in aircraft design to make flying safer in the future. Human factors as well as aircraft and technical problems are also discussed including the psychology of perception, piloting experience and comprehension and communication on both flightdeck and ground. Supported by photographs and diagrams, Volume 1 covers the period from 1952-1977. [Vol. 2 not yet pub.]
