The Murra Murra (means hand in hand) Community Responder Course arose following a number of medical emergencies within the Point Pearce community - a group of some 500 indigenous Narrunga people - on the Yorke Peninsula near Maitland. It was considered that had there been an earlier response actions, patient outcomes would have been improved. In May 2003 the first eight participants of the Murra Murra program graduated. They are now available to their community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
