Entrant : Safer Communities Awards 2003
In responses to a survey in 2000, clients and carers of Metropolitan Domiciliary Care MDC said that their greatest concern for the future was fear around home safety. Thes clients are frequently housebound. This was outside the traditional core business of MDC but the need for the agency to respond seemed vital. It was achieved through a consortium of emergency service agencies and local government, working with MDC to provide a model of doing preventative work with clients who have identified themselves as being fearful; of crime, violence, medical events when alone and external threats such as fire.
