Towong drought response.

Material type: TextTextPublication details: Tallangatta, Vic. : Towong Shire Council, [2003]Description: 2 vDDC classification:
  • SCA 363.34929099455 21 TOW
Subject: The extreme drought situation in the Towong Shire (compounded by the bushfire emergency earlier in the year) left the community physically, emotionally and financially stressed. With people feeling vulnerable and seriously concerned about the future, the whole Shire community was at risk. The innovative approach of response delivery through the personal contact of the farm/business visits increased community awareness of the range of financial support programs, services and information available to farms and businesses. Providing one-to-one assistance to farms and businesses was effective in reducing the stress levels associated with accessing assistance programs and support services in an isolated community. Decreased stress levels are expected to reduce the liklihood of physical and mental health issues within the farming sector and the broader community.
