Subject: On 2nd March 1983, Somerset Volunteer Fire Brigade initiated the current Junior Fire Cadet Training Program. This was under the control and guidance of the then Brigade's Third Officer, Kim Murray. There were nine cadets at the time of commencement. This program has since been adopted statewide. Young persons between the ages of ten to seventeen years are eligible to atten, the program has been well patronised by both male and female members. As a result of the program, three of our Junior Fire Cadet Members have since become career firefighters, along with numerous Junior Members progressing through the ranks of volunteer firefighters within the Somerset and surrounding Brigades.
