Entrant : Safer Communities Awards 2003
The program has shown great innovation in the range of materials that have been produced to target specific interest groups. This is response to the varying perceptions of the risk and people's ability to take responsiblity for their own flood safety. Groups include schools, businesses, community groups, chamber of commerce, service clubs, sporting clubs, ethnic community groups and families. For familiesa 'Family Flood Plan" has been developed, and many hundreds of families from across the Hawkesbury-Nepean, have developed their own personal flood plan at meetings conducted by the SES. More recently, the SES has begun to disseminate Family Flood Plans elsewhere in the state.
