Subject: Community fireguard recognises that bushfires are survivable if people and communities take responsiblity for their own fire safety and prepare for the event. The Main Lead Community Fireguard Group is made up of a small group of neighbours who have met several times this year, in their first year of establishment. Groups may form in forested areas, bushland, grassland, rural settlements or country towns on any sized farm or property. Main Lead Community Fire Guard Group has formed in an old gold mining area with a mix of different sized properties, in dry bushland and farmland. The group is independent but works with CFA on preparedness issues, as the basis for the program is that people may have to face a bushfire without the support of the CFA, which cannot provide every person and home with individual protection during a major bushfire.
