The committee was created by the South Australian Volunteer Brigades Association in 1995 to encourage participation of women in the fire service. At the time only eight percent of the service was female and roles were mainly in the administrative/social area. Initially this approach was to solve daytime manning which was becoming a problem for many of our brigades across South Australia.
