Recent law reports form overseas demonstrate the potential for litigation against those emergency services and government agencies which are unable or not ready to respond comprehensively when disaster strikes. Such increasing litigation indicates that the Australian emergency management community cannot sit idle hoping to be immune. Hence, this legal issues workshop was undertaken to provide States and Territories with guidance on the areas of law which need to be considered in order to minimise their liabilities in the event of an emergency
