Subject: The aims of the workshop were to inform data providers and information producers of the information needs of emergency managers, and to enhance emergency managers' awareness and knowledge of decision-support tools and techniques. A significant point to emerge from the Workshop (particularly for participants outside of the emergency services community), was recognition that no overall national emergency policy exists in Australia. There is therefore no framework within which an emergency management information policy can be developed. Such policy considerations should include the issues of strategy, standards, and stakeholder communication, as well as the need to address comprehensive emergency management principles and to focus on community vulnerability. A properly determined policy framework could lead to a range of net benefits to the Australian community that would enhance public safety and reduce costs and wasteful duplication
