It is now 100 years since the disaster, and the tragic and dramatic events of those few weeks have largely faded from memory. This book is, amongst other things, an attempt to correct that, to bring the story and the people involved back to life. It is also a story about the great gold mining industry that was in many ways the foundation of Victoria?s development in the nineteenth century.
