Subject: Death and destruction due to flooding continue to be all too common phenomena throughout the world today, affecting millions of people annually. In addition, the inadvertent accidental pollution of surface waters disrupts the drinking water supplies of thousands more. Despite the investment of billions of dollars to improve public safety to water-related hazards, the population at risk to such hazards remains large. This conference addressed a broad spectrum of issues related to disaster abatement and control for all types of flooding and accidental pollution. A number of sessions focused on problem analysis and on the development of improved abatement and control strategies from both theoretical and practical perspectives
